Editor's note: Jesse Eaves works as the senior policy adviser for child protection with World Vision, an international Christian humanitarian organization working in nearly 100 countries around the world. Mary C. Ellison currently serves as the director of policy for Polaris Project, a leading organization in the United States combating all forms of human trafficking and serving both U.S. citizens and foreign national victims, including men, women, and children. Together they are calling on U.S voters to make sure their senators pass a key anti-slavery bill.
With the upcoming elections, you can’t turn on the television without seeing a negative campaign ad or heated news segment giving Americans a glimpse of the political divisions that currently exist in our country.
While politicians argue over our future government, we lose sight of how the actions of our current government are impacting the lives of real people right now, like the millions of enslaved men, women and children in the U.S. and around the world at risk if Congress fails to pass the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act by the end of the year.
Human trafficking is “the recruitment, transport, transfer, harboring or receipt of a person by such means as threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, or fraud or deception for the purpose of exploitation." But it also has another name: modern day slavery. There are now more slaves in the world today than any other time in human history.
Sadly, this is not an issue that’s unique to developing countries. It also happens right herein our own backyards.
Organizations like World Vision and Polaris Project work with trafficking survivors in the U.S. and abroad every day to help them regain what they have lost as a result of being trafficked.
Survivors come to us from across the globe, having been trafficked by spouses, by strangers, by employers and others all promising hope and a future to those in need.
Instead, these survivors have been beaten, insulted, demeaned and degraded, been forced into commercial sex or labor, worked in horrendous conditions for little or no pay, and with the constant fear that they themselves or others would be harmed or even killed.
Despite their brokenness, we daily see the resilience of the human spirit shine in the eyes of our survivors.
We have seen them graduate from English as a Second Language courses, get married, have children, find jobs, move into and make their own homes and have what we all want and need: the freedom to live their lives independently.
We are able to identify, assist, and humbly walk alongside these courageous survivors because the United States has created a framework to combat human trafficking that seeks to protect trafficking victims, prevent human trafficking and prosecute human traffickers - and it is called the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA). Because of this law and those who work to use it each day, these survivors have found their way back to freedom and dignity.
Twelve years ago in 2000, a divided Congress came together to pass the landmark piece of legislation that is the cornerstone of all U.S. efforts to combat modern-day slavery in our country and around the world.
In 2003, 2005, and 2008 Congress unanimously passed the reauthorization. But on October 1, 2011, this important piece of legislation, the largest piece of human rights legislation in U.S. history, expired and - for the first time since its historic passage - Congress is at risk of failing to reauthorize the legislation by the end of its session.
If the bill isn't reauthorized in September, we risk losing funding for 2013.
This failure threatens United States’ global leadership in the fight against modern-day slavery and jeopardizes the progress made over the last decade.
If Congress fails to reauthorize the TVPA by the end of the year, no one is certain of the impact on the 20 million people currently enslaved around the world.
This legislation benefits both survivors who participate in the programs created and funded by the TVPA and advocates who work daily to fight trafficking.
In the United States, TVPA-funded programs strengthen prevention of trafficking, fund taskforces across the country to protect victims and prosecute traffickers, and fund important tools such as the National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline.
Internationally, anti-trafficking programs set-up awareness programs, strengthen community level protection networks, pass stronger laws, and provide better victims services.
Congress is setting a dangerous precedent for future reauthorizations and ending a signal to other countries that fighting modern-day slavery is not a priority for the United States.
This is dangerous, not because it fails to recognize modern-day slavery as an issue, but because it will affect the men, women, and children around the world and here at home that suffer from slavery and those committed to fighting it.
For the last 12 years we have been a leader in the fight against modern-day slavery. Countries abroad will watch the U.S. elections closely to determine our priorities.
Congress needs to send a clear message, that no matter the outcome of the election, ending modern-day slavery is still a priority for the United States.
As Americans, we have a role to play. According to the senators themselves, it is up to the people to use the power of their voices to put a stop to this.
This is your chance to make a difference in this fight, so if you believe it is wrong to enslave another human being, we urge you to join thousands of Americans across the country on September 4, 2012 for the National TVPRA Call-In Day. On that day, we will flood Senate offices with calls urging passage of the Senate bill.
This is not the time for political games and bickering, but a time to put aside what divides us and unite on an injustice we all know is wrong. We hope you’ll join us. Learn more and help spread the word at www.passTVPRAnow.org
Which Senators and Reps have in recent years insured the continuation of this project? I will encourage my Louisiana Senators to take up the cause, but need to know who the real champions are currently in the Congress and how it came to pass that they dropped the ball in 2011.
Sincerely,
P.S. All Federal Funding of all good causes is quickly coming to a dramatic change of pace. How are we to move this issue from Federal to private funding providers?
Are you kidding? Do you think private contributors give a darn about exploited people across this country or globe? They are the source for this crime or at least looking the other way. This is the role of Government and your comment just proves you know nothing about this problem or care nothing for the victims of these crimes. Get educated before posting on this topic again.
To clarify "This is the role of Government to solve".
If you doubt it, Just look at al the Mexican girls and kids being sent (suckered) up to the US to host American Clients..... Get a clue...
G2, you need to calm down. As someone who is involved with the issue, we don't need more annoying partisan people. Both parties work hard on this issue. It is a rare issue that bring both right and left together. And private funding does help. There is no reason to attack private money. It takes a balanced approach. While this is an issue in the US, it is predominantly an international issue, which is why private corporations are of such importance. NOTHING good comes about from people that post angry posts that serve ZERO purpose. The fact is that there is limited money and the US government has lead and done a good job, it is many other countries that contribute little. Money helps, but the problem is complex, and the US government throwing money at it will not solve it. See the war on drugs. Groups like IJM are best because they understand this is a Rule of Law issue. Money is needed, but you act like a party is somehow not involved, probably you disagree with their views. Many involved in the fight are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. Please keep your political views out of this. It does not help.
No "Kevin" we don't need to tone it down.
Good for you that you work to stop human trafficing. Good for the few monsters that are not so totally disconnected from reality that they insist upon making this a political football too, but glorification of slavery and the south; the economics of the south and the plantation philosophy of the Reagan Collective most assuredly DOES make this a partisian issue...
It is the demagogary of the conservative that made slavery possible in the first place by dehumanizing the 'other'....they are disconnected from reality and enablers of their denial...whether it be CNN...or YOU need to 'get over it' and wake up to the fact that 'both sides' are NOT the same.
name something the government does better than private charities...
The only "exploited" people in the US are the taxpayers.
yeah... tell that to the people that owe money to snakeheads
Senator Vitter hasn't supported this bill yet. Senator Landrieu has. I work with the Louisiana IJM Advicacy Group (we're on facebook). Many groups have joined together to have a call in day on Sept 4. Please find our page on facebook for more info. Thanks.
STOP WASTING TAXPAYERS MONEY. There are a nearly infinite number of "good causes" that advocacy groups want congress to pass using taxpayers money. If the cause is "so just" get the churches to fund it. We are already spening tens of billions supporting illegal aliens, advocacy groups for getting amnesty for illegal aliens, and every other excuse to import tens of thousands more illegal aliens so they can come to US as "victims " and get on the endless number of US welfare state programs.
Let the churches pay the money to tilt at this windmill.
I am certain Sen. Vitters can supply you with at least three reasons he will vote against this law. And in the unlikely event the law were to get by a Republican filibuster in the Senate, I am sure Speaker Boehner will bring it to the floor immediately–NOT.
This bill should have been a slam dunk for Congress to pass. Guess they couldn't find a way to make a profit on it so they just let it slide and the rest of us should do the same. Let's give Congress a major nudge on Sept.4 and tell them to get busy taking care of business, rather than themselves.
With the goovernment continueing to spend a trillion dollars more than they collect in taxes, it is time for congress to cut back on the spending. The rest of the developed world has stood back and let us bankrupt ourselves funding all the needy projects throughtout the world while they cheered us on but did nothing to help. The US has gone from being the biggest lender nation in the world to being the biggest debtor nation in the world.
Thak your Republican leaders giving the money to Wall Street for doing all of that on our behalf. Peace.
dandydonnie – I completely agree. We just can't aford to pay for every good cause out there. This is a very good cause, but we can not keep spending beyond our limits. And no we don't need to give anything to Wall Street either.
You mean the Republican leaders that were in office in 2009 when the TARP money was given out? Oh, wait...that was a Democrat president, with a Democrat Congress. My bad.
No more money for illegal aliens. Deport them all now.
So in other words, a common-sense bill like this needs extra effort to get it passed because there are no billionaires seeking to profit from it who will bribe our legislators to ram it through?
Sounds like a typical indictment of our legislators and their unwillingness to do anything, much less what is good, unless they are paid millions of dollars through lobbyists.
When will this problem be addressed? Congress is filled with nothing but sleazebag millionaires who refuse to do the right thing. What guarantee do I have that they will listen to me if I call them to urge passage of the bill? None.
We are not represented in Congress anymore. Only MONEY is represented. A Mexican drug lord has more influence in Congress than I do!
How very true. We are nothing but an inconvenience for the ruling class.
Thanks to Napoleon most of Europe liberated their slaves by 1815. Russia lagged 50 years behind, not liberating their slaves until 1865, the same year as the US. Saudi Arabia lagged 80 years behind the US and Russia. Not liberating their slaves until they died after 1929. So when Malcolm X visited Mecca in 1964 he was still in the presence of slaves. But of course he didn't say anything. Because it would have been disrespectful.
Let the UN worry about it. The only countries that still allow slavery are Saudi Arabia and other MUSLIM countries.
They are speaking of illegal slaves as well, of which there are many in the U.S. But you're right, totally not our problem, We shouldn't worry about doing the right thing, we should worry about invading other countries and killing innocent civilians.
Not so. There is humsn trafficing in Asia, the Pacific, South America, Mexico and the USA.
So what about when G.W.Bush visited the Saudi king and walked around holding hands with him? Do you think that he said"Hey Faisal, we can't be buying any more oil from you 'till you do something to free all of your slaves." Do you think that he said anything at all?
Did you read the article? This is about human trafficking that exists in the UNITED STATES.
actually holly did YOU read the article, it was about slavery world wide.
"There are now more slaves in the world today than any other time in human history."
"Survivors come to us from across the globe"
"Organizations like World Vision and Polaris Project work with trafficking survivors in the U.S. and abroad every day"
And how is this different from illegal immigration? The fact the US does nothing and looks the other way means all those immigrants are being exploited with no legal rights. Although the face of modern day slavery is young women turning tricks, it should also include groups of workers, maids and nannies who are brought into this country as slaves that also have to work off their debt. Some get very little money if they are lucky. The pro illegal immigration groups are so clueless and emotional about this issue they fail to see the connection. Sorry to say many wealthy international people are moving here and bringing "help", which is a kind word, they are slaves. It's common in other countries to have them. Middle class Americans are embracing this slave wage force good luck trying to change minds.
Actually, this is the cause of much illegal immigration. The slaves aren't brought here legally, but smuggled in with forged papers. If the slaves go to the authorities, they'll be deported and or arrested. The slavers also threaten the families if the slaves disobey. This is the worst kind of illegal immigration because the slavers get the labor for free. They encourage people to use their slaves for less than minimum wage, preventing the local population from making an honest living.
Thank you very much for informative update. Looks like this is the only way to get things done anymore, we must nag our Senators to no end until they act.
USA is not the world police. Let NATO take it up.
I don't think that this is a matter of policing, only supporting the effort. Not sure how you could be against it. And, I don't even think there's any funding money involved. It seems to be a no-brainer1
There is funding involved; support for various activities in this country especially. Maybe that is why it is not being renewed, lost to the budget axe.
i have a feeling that you don't actually know what NATO is or does. just so you know it is a military orgaization and only a military organization lead by the united states. it was created to counter the soviet led warsaw pact. ibelieve you are thinking of the UN which also has an anti-slavery group but that group is funded, in part, by this law.
You can look up the status of legislation on a Library of Congress site called "Thomas". The bills in question are S. 1301 and H.R. 2830 (Senate and House respectively... you can look up legislation on Thomas either via bill number, generally easier if you have it, or by a word/phrase search, which tends to pull up a lot of unrelated or dead options).
You'll note that neither the Senate nor the House version has actually gone to a vote despite favorable reports out of committee. There is bipartisan support if you look at the lists of cosponsors. For larealtor2012, Mary Landrieu was one of the co-sponsors in the Senate. I didn't notice anyone from LA on the list of cosponsors in the House but I might have missed one when scanning quickly over the list. The Senate report out of committee is an interesting read and tells you much more than this article which explains the problem but you'll notice doesn't actually give any indication at all as to what the legislation actually does in relation to the problem other than the mention of funding (and if you read the committee report that is a bit misleading given the comments on duplicate funding and appropriations).
If Republicans get their way, slavery will be the future of today's middle class, already sinking into poverty.
I think you are right. I'll bet that every time they meet they ask "does anybody have any new ideas on turning the middle class into slaves"?
You're almost right, minus the sarcasm. We think this in our minds, but speak about them using fluffy words. If I can get someone to work for less, why do I care?
Actually they do. They just don't use those words. But that is PRECISELY what they do.
Keep your political views out of this fight. You seem to want to put your views ahead of the need of victims. I have worked with both parties and they are both very involved. The Obama Administration, especially Senator Clinton has been great, but so was the Bush Administration. There are a million issues to fight over, but this has NEVER been a Republican vs Democratic Party issue. Let's keep it that way. Putting political views ahead of the fight on trafficking makes me question whether one really is interested in the issue and solving the problem.
Keep your apathy out of this fight.
REALITY is something that affects all of us and willful denial of reality threatens not only the slaves of the past, the present and future generations but all life on the planet.
Stop enabling lies.
since when have working with people to stop a bad thing apathy? are you sure you're using the right word?
apathy
1. absence or suppression of passion, emotion, or excitement.
2. lack of interest in or concern for things that others find moving or exciting.
You actually make it apeapr so easy with your presentation however I find this topic to be actually something that I think I would by no means understand. It kind of feels too complicated and very wide for me. I am looking forward to your next submit, I will attempt to get the grasp of it!
If the United States really were to do away with slavery, then that would mean that Welfare as it's known today would be wiped off the books and then the there would BILLIONS saved and those that were collecting it would then have to go out and take any job offered.
Hey that would solve two problems, let's do away with slavery and all welfare.
The recipients of welfare are mostly kids, if you want them to enter the workforce like the used to, that's another story. Most Republicans would probably support that.
And if the children hand parents that were worth a darn they would not need welfare. It's all about if you look at the glass as half full or half empty. I look at it as half full so I see the world as it should reward people that go out and do the responsible thing and if you don't then you get what you deserve.
The money for 10 ICBMs would fund welfare for years, and without those 10 we would still have 2,990 others. I'd rather feed people than turn them into crispy critters.
Careful Steve. The Missile program used to play big part in Sunnyvales economy
Your math is a bit off. The cost of one nuke would fund the welfare budget for years. Also, there are more like 6,000 missiles; don't forget the ones on subs that are srpead around the world.
No, I don't think he said anything like that, nor do I think that while Obama was bowing to him said"Hey Faisal, we can't be buying any more oil from you 'till you do something to free all of your slaves." Do you think that he said anything at all?
Since we are no longer buying ICBM's we would have to sell 10 or so to come up with that money. Who do you think we should sell them to? North Korea might be interested. I'll bet money Iran would buy them. How about Al Queda? Pakistan? Do you have any suggestions, BIG MOUTH?
The deployment of 10 ICBM Peacekeeper Missiles is 700 million dollars. The federal government spent 451.9 billion dollars this Fiscal year on Welfare, not including money spent by state and local governments.
I'll vote for that. I would also vote to suspend voting rights for people who were on the government dole.
Republicans and idiots like to offer up simple solutions to complicated problems. The logic here is all wrong – and this hurts you as well. Why? You are mistaking your drive for other peoples, you are mistaking your education and learning for other peoples, you are mistaking your view, and others. The fact is, no matter what you do, some people will never work, and some people can't get jobs immediately. Without welfare more will turn to crime – not in the economies favor, not in yours. Without welfare, it punishes people not educated or smart enough for higher paying steady work. You mistake thinking this is motivation for them to find better work, but you are wrong. This narrow republican philosophy on what it means to exist and what others motivation for living is – is at best – irresponsible. There will always be people who try to abuse the system, this low level blue collar is what you're worried about? Why not close tax breaks for rich oil companies who do abuse on a scale so large you can't even see the small abuse down below.
Slavery and Welfare have nothing to do with each other. Go post your anti-welfare views elsewhere. This is a bipartisan issue about REAL people's lives. We don't need more people spewing their views that have nothing to do with the issue here. This is about helping people who often are in bad situations that they will not be able to get out of with help from others.
This would be a federal law and remember – conservatives (say) they don't want big government. Each state would have to pass a law, and those states that don't (or drag their heels) will attract the slave trade, etc. etc. And remember – the federal government and Supreme Court couldn't force those states hands because that would be interefering with our lives.
Thats B/S. Slavery was abolished by the civil war. If it wasn't I think I'll go to India and buy a couple to take care of my landscaping. Do you really think I could get away doing that? Yeah Right!!
That's B/S, slavery was ended by the President of the United States, A. Lincoln. What the funding for the anti-trafficing mandate does is support enforcment and education both in this and other countries.
I'm confused. Didn't we pass an anti-slavery law around 150 years ago? Whatever happened to that one?
I was taught in school that all forms of human slavery had been abolished in the U.S.A. Has the U.S. startede bto allow slavery again or is this another ploy by these non-profit groups to milk more tax payer dollars from the federal government.
The US is the world's leader. This problem is primarily international. Go back to Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and others who viewed the US as an EMPIRE OF FREEDOM, where the US has a role in promoting freedom. You liikely were born here by sheer luck. Others were not. Great leaders like Jefferson and Lincoln understood this. What if thousands of others did not sacrifice their lives for your freedom? We are not talking about huge sums of money and we are talking about helping people that simply can't help themselves.
Are there any metrics about how successful the program has been? How many has it rescued? How many law enforcement operations has it been involved in? How many law enforcement officers have received training?
We need to move away from governing by ideology and rhetoric, and instead introduce metrics and accountability.
True, if we are to support this, or not, we need to know how it is working out. Is it doing some good, or just dumping money into the pockets of a non profit group of social worker types?
Yes right you should need to know how it is working out.
On first reading – it seems a "no brainer" as I certainly do not support human trafficking/slavery. However, there's always at least another side to every heart wrenching story and I agree with rocinante. What has actually been accomplished by World Vision? I don't know – truly, not saying we shouldn't support them – just wondering the same thing. Maybe there is another method/agency/venue fighting this horrible side of humanity we need to know about or support?
This is a fair argument. The reality is that efforts to fight human trafficking have been very poor when it comes to bang for the buck, similar to the war on drugs. The money that the US government gives to many of the NGO's and Non-profits is not having the necessary impact to eliminate the problem. Many groups that receive large amounts of money have very limited success. Unfortunately it has become a trendy issue where many involved are more interested in saying they are abolitionists of some type but the reality is they have little success to show. A new more out of the box approach may be necessary because the current strategy is not making the slightest dent in the problem, although a global recession really escalates the problem.
need to look at this law and make it work.
If you look at what is happening in Haiti and Africa, you will see that NGOs frequently create more problems than they solve.
This is kind of like declaring war on human nature. There will always be bad people that push people around. Here is the truth; no one can make you a slave without your consent. Meaning, if you don't fight, you'll have to submit to whoever is trying to rule over you. And that highlights an undeniable truth.... Freedom isn't free and if you aren't willing to fight for it, you aren't going to have it.
I agree wholeheartedly. We need to get these worthless welfare/food stamp naggers back into the fields. This will alleviate the need for mexicans to do the dirty work. And hey, at least then, naggers will be worth something again, finally.
My shoes also could use a good shining.
You are a funny man. You should be a standup comic in an all black nightclub.
I'm willing to bet that you make half of what any hard-working mexican makes, and make a couple hundred dollars more than any black family which makes you unqualified for any sort of welfare which is probably the root of your ignorance in the first place. There are mexicans and blacks that put more effort into their work than your parents put into your conception, don't fool yourself..your opinion is worthless.
you honestly think changing a single letter in what you write is going to fool anyone you sm'o'ck. tell you what, as'p', quit bangin' your daughter/sister, that cotton ain't going to pick itself. I never knew you can shine flip-flops
Probably the obstructionist party of NO holding up this legislation. Republicans will vote against or hold up anything they think the Dems want, whether it's good for the country or not.
99.99% of the time it is not good for the country. Did you ever consider what will happen to welfare and food stamps when our economy goes over the cliff? What happens when our 16 triullion dollars worth of IOU's get called in and we cannot borrow any more? We will have to cut a trillion dollars of spending out of our 3 trillion dollar budget. What do you think will get cut? You do think don't you?
I BEEN READING ALL YOU PEOPLE GOT TO SAY SOME IMPORTANT BUT OTHERS JUST UGLY. THESE PEOPLE BLACK ,WHITE BLUE ARE GREEN ARE IMPORTANT. THESE ARE NOT DOGS ON THE STREET. YOU SEE A DAG ON THE STREET HUNGRY YOU STOP FEED IT ARE TAKE IT HOME. BUT NOT A HUMAN?WHY IS THAT?

You mean slavery isn't illegal? Everyone needs a slave. If I start out as a slave, I could get promoted to a paying job!
You mean slavery isn't illegal? Everyone needs a slave. If I start out as a slave, I could get promoted to a paying job!
We have to be vigilant at keeping our anti-slavery laws up to date We all know the Republicans are just rabidly awaiting the day they can own minorities and women again.
This is just a feel-good politically correct law that is completely unnecessary. Slavery or human trafficking is already covered by a host of laws. Another is completely unnecessary.
Quit playing to the gallery and get down to the serious business of fixing the economy.
If there was anything that the U.S. and NATO could completely be opposed to it would be slavery...get your stuff together boys and girls, this is getting ridiculous.
Ya right with slavery all throwe the holy books that say its all right this joker is not right 4 that job.pnm.
Limit the wealth of the plutocracy to 20 million and then use that collected fund to free everyone including these supposed 20 million slaves. USA has not even cleaned up or finished Iraq either, so what about the debt slaves in USA? If the country belongs to everyone, then distribute all unused state land to the homeless and starving. Capitalism needs socialist limits on sequestration. And focusing on the issue of ending INTERNAL debt is as important as ending slavery. When 200 million debt slaves exist in the USA, talking about 20 million slaves elsewhere worldwide is just plain mockery.
http://malaysiandemocracy.wordpress.com/
You'd think an outfit like CNN or FB would want to do some good instead of drown voices of those who bother.
I see nothing wrong with slavery. In fact I think President Lincoln was wrong and slavery should be legalized.
Nice. How old are you? Are you driving a car yet? Mentally I must tell you that you aren't even reaching the pedals yet. Be careful, thinking of your ilk is more dangerous than driving blind. Get some help. It's called an education and if you are under 19 its still free.
If you are old, well, I understand. It's called aluminum pots.
troll harder, my son
16 people went to mark's stake house in the square in ocala fl. we were so happy to celebrate a christian young lady's 21 st bithday. we also rought my austic great grandson. we came to restaurant first and spent over $700 plus. the manager told us we had to leave because a woman at anotheer table complained that he was noisy. the manager waited until he collected all monies first before telling us to leave and caused the b irthday girl to cry. marks is the looser for our church will remember this bad day.
sorry about the b-day being ruined, but what does that have to do with the article?
People seem to fail to remember that at different times in history everyones ancestors were slaves. which slaves are you talking about? the hebrews, greeks, europeans in bondage, tribes of indians, chinese, or africans. you have slaves right now in the u.s.if you count the jails population that work for free or the people in the sweat shops in other countries. what,s up are you tied of doing your own work like 400 yrs ago. give it a break. are you crazy?????
Thank you so much for this much needed work. I cannot even fathom the suffering of so many people that the world conveniently forgets. It is such a horrible and unnecessary fate for the smallest of voices that must be heard.
I just wish this country would spend as much on alleviating such abuse than we do on armaments, military bases, and the personnel it takes to manage them. With all our resources we must do more- thank you for keeping the light on a subject that most Americans think ended in 1865.
This bill might be a good cause but I think its going to have to wait for another time because we have a do-nothing-Republican controlled Congress. They couldn't even get together to work on the issue of raising the debt ceiling, what makes anybody think they will get together on this issue? This Republican Congress is too busy foaming at the mouth at the prospect of having a Republican president. Finally, the Republicans back representatives like Akin who apparently believes rape comes in 2 flavors, legitimate and illegitimate, so there's a clue for you on what the Republican would think about this human trafficking bill.
Americans don't know and don't care what their government or the rest of the world is doing. The majority does not vote and the elections are merely sport...
It's been that way for the past 60 years that I've been there,,,,don't think it will change, either
I knows dat.....heh heh
Repeal the Thirteenth!!!!
let's do it! I got a shotgun and dog collar. let me know where you live. these oranges aren't going to pick themselves
How can i keep my proppity on the plantation and win re- election if they pass this bill ? I object.
This bill should not be passed in its present form. It has been hijacked by special interest groups with their own agenda. In particular it criminalizes all commercial acts of physical intimacy, even those freely agreed upon by adults.
End slavery? REPUBLICANS under Abraham Lincoln already did this against the wishes of the Democrat/Dixicrat South. Result? A republican who lost his life to end slavery. And today? Democrats very shrewdly locking up a population of slave voters who believe they are helpless without the goodies they promise to give them. My own brother going through hard times only works part time because he'll lose his "benefits" if he makes a little more. Ridiculous. Vote for a democrat, and stay home. They love you this much.
The Polaris Project tells lies in order to advance its agenda.
and what agenda would that be? because trying to end human trafficking sounds like a good thing
This seems like a good growth industry. How do I get started?
We must do away with slavery on earth it must go an all holy book men an books as know good alyins would come to earth there pants are doing vary well look at this one earth look at what men like them have dune.pnm.
