Paper airplanes for freedom

Late last month, we asked iReporters to help us spread the word about the global problem of human slavery by creating paper airplanes, the symbol of CNN’s Freedom Project.

Though it may seem like a lighthearted assignment for such a serious subject, the planes offered the important opportunity to educate the world about slavery. Each plane included a hard-hitting statistic about the prevalence of slavery in today’s world and a personalized message of hope. After making – and flying – their planes, iReporters then passed them along to friends and family in hopes of spreading the word.

So far, iReporters in 26 different countries, from Nigeria to Sweden to Indonesia, have created airplanes and passed them along. Although the planes are a symbolic statement, they are proof that many of you care about abolishing slavery and are committed to educating others about its prevalence worldwide.

And while the response is impressive, we don’t want to stop there! CNN is taking an in-depth look at the Freedom Project all week and we want to continue spreading the word about slavery with the iReport community. We hope you’ll join the effort and create a paper airplane of your own. Together, we can make a difference.

CNN is the best... Thank you for your ON POINT, NO NON SENSE reporting...
By the way, as a side note and completely un-related. We have a group that goes on baseball road trip and we together a blog with the stories and pictures... How do we get the word out about our blog / link?

I don't agree at all. Poker.org was sold to a company in the daoimn industry, so they obviously think they can make enough money from developing it to cover the huge price. They have experience gambling .org daoimns already and must have some advantage when it comes to that (like getting it listed at the top of Google). Mainly, the daoimn had a significant value to any speculator. iReport.com was sold to an end user (cnn.com) and the value was based on the fact cnn wanted that particular daoimn because they had already chosen that name for their reporting service, and buying the daoimn for whatever it cost was a drop in the bucket for them. I don't think the daoimn itself had any significant value at all to a daoimn speculator. Yes, in both cases the sellers drove a hard bargain to get those amazing prices, but that is not the whole story.

thanks so much for raising eanrawess about this important issue. so many of the daily blogs i read have entirely overlooked these tragic events, and while it is completely up to each blogger as to what they wish to discuss on their personal blog, i am saddened that they do not find it pertinent to raise eanrawess about something so immense. whether it be donating, praying, raising eanrawess, etc., every little bit helps. it fills my heart to know that cedar is learning of such empathy and kindness of spirit at such a tender age. :] you seem like such a wonderful mother to him and he will definitely appreciate all of the great qualities of his that you have nurtured.

  2. Worked in Asia

We should put public pressure on the companies in Asia whose business customs include freely handing out gifts of sexual services to their business guests. Of course, the receiving party's employers deserve public scrutiny as well, especially since a very large number of them are American and European companies.

Many of the sexual providers involved are young girls (and boys) and because many of these Asian companies are doing so well financially, the sex traffickers they depend on can expect a very steady, and growing, source of demand.

I really don't think I can make this plane especially when I cannot read the headline-news on CNN. I hate our limitations on news here in China. What we want is freedom. We need FREEDOM!!!!

I don't pay for gas, directly, arnomye. I don't have a car. I ride public transportation. Today, I saw the Golden Bear gas station on Morena selling regular for $3.97 and $4.17 for premium. But I've heard the gas is crap. When the gas prices go up like this, $5 for all day on MTS seems like a bargain. It cost a little more to ride the Coaster up north, but the view from the Coaster is absolutely spectacular along the cliffs of Del Mar!

It is a very serious issue we have on hand here. In my neighborhood, I found out that there are lots of domestic slaves, some as young as nine years old. The kids are brought from the interior parts of the country by close friends of their parents and sometimes even relatives. They promise to care for these children and send them to school, but it is a different story once they board the vehicle and wave goodbye to the parents of the children. On Saturday, I am doing an official video of the situation with interviews and all. Afterwards, i'm getting the UNICEF and human rights groupd invloved. I see people going to jail....

Excellent read, I recently passed this onto a colleague who has been performing a little research on that. And the man actually bought me lunch because I came across it for him smile So allow me to rephrase that: Appreciate your lunch!
