Tales of torture, slavery in Sinai

Two women from Eritrea - whose identities are hidden - came separately to Israel seeking a better future.

"I thought things would be much different from Africa," say one of the women. "I got information from people who already arrived before me in Israel that the lifestyle is much better than Eritrea."

What they didn't know was that the men they paid $2,500 to bring them to the Israeli border would repeatedly beat, rape and starve them during their long journey.

"When I left my country I was optimistic and I thought I would reach my final destination, but at the point where I was with the Bedouin in the Sinai, I just gave up everything and said this is the end."

Theirs are not isolated stories. In 2010 alone more than 14,000 African migrants crossed Israel's southern border with Egypt - nearly a 170 percent rise from the year before, according to government figures. And migrant aid organizations say with that surge has come an increase in horrific first-hand accounts of systematic torture, rape, and slavery, across the border, in the Sinai Peninsula.

This makes it sound like this is Israel's responsibility, yet Sinai is in Egypt. Does Israel have any control over this or is this a job for the Egyptian government? It sounds like this is on Egypt. What a sad story.

Israel is a country used to lure people out of their countries and into the hands of the traffickers. it's used as bait. where do these slaves go when they are enslaved? who is the customer?

The Bedouins are to blame. I know you want to blame Israel so badly but they do not control Sinai. But you still don't allow this point to stop you from criticising Israel. Israel is a country where women have freddom and the same rights as men. Women are in the government and in the army. One just became a general. Israel is the only true democracy in the middle east. But yet you still hate it.

The victims wanted to reach Israel. They would have a better life in a Jewish state. Israel is not interested in refugees but treats them better than any country in the Middle East.
These are facts. They can be investigated and compared with any other Middle Eastern country.

You are exactly right. People that are stupid and also those who are geographically ignorant will think that Israel is to blame for this when in fact it is the Egyptians who are responsible for this area. Israel has not had the Sinai since Egypt and Israel signed a peace accord in 1979. I guarrantee you theat when Israel held the Sinai, this crap would not have been going on. Of course you don't hear any protestations from "the Palestinain aid organizations do you? No of course not, cause it's so much easier to bash Israel. Where the heck are all the U.N organizations who regularly casigate Israel for "human rights abuses" What a total farce. The world is a strange place these days

@dude you should listen to your own advise- Israel is not the one throughout history doing the killing! In fact historically their religion is the only peaceful one- as they never had the crusades or jihad or sought to convert everyone to their religion. What other religion can boast that? Also I've never feared a Jew trying to kill or terrorize me- can you say that about Islam or Christianity? I've never seen Israel invade another country- but I've seen them being attacked and defend themselves. Can you say that about any other middle eastern countries? I've seen Israel offer help to their enemies, but I've seen their enemies call for Israel to wiped of the map without mercy. Seems like you should go and learn history before making another comment.

Like most of the readers posting here, you´re wasting time trying to blame either Egypt or Israel for these acts. Nonsense. Every country has criminals operating within their borders, no exceptions. When you add a vast wilderness like the Sinai, which no country, either Israel or Egypt, is going to waste limited resources to seriously patrol, unprotected people are going to be preyed on. Look at the comments on this page, mostly wanna be "experts" making up facts to fit their anti-Arab or anti-Israeli agenda. You sound like Republicans and Democrats, and that's not a compliment.

@sumday-My friend you are severely mistaken. Keep in mind that Israel, a state that is completely entitled to deploy methods of self defense, has grossly violated its right to protection by brutalizing a disenfranchised Palestinian population. Need I mention the use of bulldozers and tanks against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. Take a very brief look into history and there are a plethora of examples of the disproportionate use of force against the Palestinian populace under the guise of "state sovereignty" and "security".

Expansion of settlements, home demolitions, and the blockading of ports within Gaza and the West Bank have gravely hindered any form of viable commercial development within the Palestinian state. I also am fully aware that the Palestinian effort is not void of guilt, as Hamas has employed the use of rockets, etc. HOWEVER, history will stand to show an extremely disproportionate use of violence, force, and systematic killing against Palestinians, employed by the IDF.

I hope to see peace one day, however you cannot blatantly deny Israel's guilt in this conflict as well.

Actually SUMDAY, if you read the history of how the Jews got into Palestine and created Israel back after the second World War it was the very definitiion of terrorism and conquering. And it was sanctioned by the UN at the time. They would kick the Palestinians out of their own homes, and tell them you don't live here anymore. For those Palestinians who resisted, take a guess what would happen. There were also Jewish death squads who would kill Palestinians to make it so they would want to leave. That is the part of modern Israeli history that doesn't get communicated too often. Of course the Palestinians and Arabs of the time, shed blood as well and a lot of it (Hebron massacre of 1929). So who started it? Your guess is as good as mine. Also, if you look to ancient Israel, the Jews literally conquered the area and established their own kingdom. They were told by God to wipe out entire kingdoms, men, women, and children. I am not defending the Palestinians or attacking the Jews, and your right, Judaism is not a proselytizing religion. They won't try to convert you. Horrible things have been done in the name of all religions...even more horrible things have been done in the name of no religion at all.

Take a look at Arab history and how islam has been spread. You'll see them for their true selves. And what Israel has to deal with. For your info in Ancient Israel the Jews lived alongside many other people in Israel.

I don't care who's to blame. These people should stay in their own country and not jump to another because "the lifestyle"s better". No country should allow immigrants, legal or illegal. You leave your own country and you take you chances, just like our ancestors did. At least they came here to work, not beg.

This is about Israel taking the Sinai peninsula from Egypt to control the Suez canal the whole reason for the allowing the people of Egypt to get rid of Mubarak. This has been the goal of the Rothschild Empire of Israel since the beginning. American government has clearly been taken over by the Rothschild mafia family, as was quite apparent with the public display in congress the other week with the speech of Netanyahu and the endless standing applause by our representatives to this foreign prime minister. Luckily for them, like 99% of this country live on a daily dose of stupid pills and television.

do you have any proof or links to your propganda? Sinia belongs to Egypt in case you did not know that (talk about ignorant). I've yet to see or hear of any plans of Israel taking over that part of land. In case you didn't know Israel signed that land over to Eygpt when they signed the peace agreement and to date both sides have remained true to that agreement, so I doubt very much that Isreal is trying to take it back. But if you have facts and a link I'll go look at it.

To clarify, I´m not a Zionist, rather, I'm talking here about the psychotic conspriacy theories that pervade political thought on these sites. How do you people function in everyday life? Don't your co-workers and family realize you're so far removed from reality?

Sumday – Let me point something out to you first.

"This is about Israel taking the Sinai peninsula from Egypt to control the Suez canal" -me "from Egypt" see that there.

"Sinia belongs to Egypt in case you did not know that (talk about ignorant)." – you, Yes let's start talking about ignorance.

Yes, I know the agreement. Let's just say this is my observation of how Israel operates. Our media seems to talk in a different language when reporting on these events. You kind of have to really pay attention to figure out what's going on. Stories like Israel and Iran and Egypt and the way they act, and issues on the canal (the area where ships shoot through without having to go around Africa), do your homework and you too can figure it out.

G-dsProphecy – Wow. Typical, and not unexpected. You selfish, crazy, and quite arrogant wack jobs need to be medicated or restrained.

It's good of Israel to be giving sanctuary to thousands of Eritrean refugees. However, this should not distract from the hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees whose plight has been caused by Israel ... which however might be exactly what Israel was hoping for with their policy toward the Eritreans.

People don't seem to realize that there WERE no "Palestinians" where Israel was established. There were Arabs, mostly nomadic herding Muslims, but they didn't call themselves "Palestinians." Those who do are people who came to the region specifically to jihad and kill Israelis. Mostly from Syria, but from the whole gamut of countries with Muslim populations. The name "Palestinian" was given to the Jews by the Romans, and it was a slur on them. It hasn't been used until these modern day "Palestinians" decided it was a cool name and copped it. They wanted a collective identity that didn't give away where they'd really come from. Seems to have worked, because today, most people in the West really think these people had a country once called "Palestine." Pure yippledung.

The original Arabs in the new Israel were promptly given full citizenship and rights, and there was no big fuss about it. The land was scruffy, and only lived in by a few Arab nomads. Israel then turned it into a garden, and now Arab/Muslims want it.

Muslims are renowned for not building things. They, and their religion, are all about conquest and domination. They conquer, then use the stuff the other people built. I've heard that weasels live kind of the same way – killing everything in their path, whether they're hungry or not, and making their dens in rabbit holes – after killing the rabbits, of course.

These "Palestinians" got total autonomy over Gaza – TOTAL. Israel even kicked some of its own citizens out of their homes so the place could be given to these Muslims. Were any of them grateful for this? Dream on; Muslims are never grateful for things they think they should be given simply because they ARE Muslims – they are the superior humans, and "everybody ought to know that".

They elected a terrorist group to lead them. They've spent most of their resources lobbing rockets into Israel. Not even feeding their own families has higher priority than attacking Israel and its people. The result is that whatever infrastructure had been there originally is breaking down. They neither fix it nor build anything, and Gaza is now the world's biggest SLUM. By their very own CHOOSING. There were many nations standing ready to help the people of Gaza build a strong and healthy civilization for themselves. That wasn't what they wanted.

I have no pity for them. They chose squalor, disrepair and filth. But then, they didn't come there to build homes and a new country – they came to jihad. And jihad they ARE doing, every day.

These people have chosen to be cockroaches. Maybe not every one of them, but any who want something better had best keep quiet about it. Meanwhile, Hamas is teaching little children, in schools and on kiddie-TV, how to be good little "Shahadis" (suicide bombers), and discouraging play with toys in preference to learning how to throw rocks at Israelis.

Gaza is a pigsty, whose government and the majority of whose people are dedicated to death and destruction. It's pretty sick when they will forgo working to feed their own families in favor of jihading with homemade rockets. But then, Islam isn't particularly noted for its reverence for human life – even of its own believers.

A religion that is anti-life is not a religion at ALL. I've studied it since 1994, and find nothing in it that is worthwhile, and much that stands my hair on end. It is this "thing" which implants the hate/jihad mindset in most of the world's Muslims, and it is Muslims who are involved in most of the violence in the world today. Yet we tolerate them?

I have this notion that a religion whose god tells its believers that I deserve to be slaughtered, has no right to expect a crumb of tolerance or respect from me. Silly me, right?

While I took great issue when Israel sent those white phosphorous shells into Gaza, I understand the frustration that made them do it, but I can't forgive them for it on that account. It was just, flat WRONG. Most of the time, what Israel does against these "Palestinians" is fully justified. I have no deep love for Israel any more than any other country in that region, because everything is so tied up in "my god's better than your god" garbage.

Islam is the worst of the bunch, though – by FAR. It is the only religion that approves of slavery, torture and other atrocities, including genocide. Other faiths have acted that way, but only in Islam are such things both approved and mandated. Its god is said to be the same as Judaism and Christianity, but it isn't – it's a vicious, bloodthirsty and sadistic god. Even though no gods are clean and pure of culpabilities, Allah stands alone as being totally anti-life. By my definition, that excludes Islam from being qualified as a genuine religion. Its believers should NOT enjoy the religious rights other people have, because they will USE them to take those rights FROM the other people, and are using our tolerance to keep us all placid while they are merrily – and QUITE VISIBLY – already beginning their prime directive to take over the whole world. And we refuse to see it. We will, of course. When it's too late.

Muslims have blocked me from commenting on CNN's SoundOff boards (but not the blogs). They've put an image overlay where the text fields should be. They look like fields, but won't accept a cursor. That, and a whole lot more has been done to attack me. I'm going to have to format my PC to be rid of it. Today, since I've been to sites involving Islamic violence, I have had 500 access alerts from ZA Pro – probably more, but the program only goes up to 500 max. It doesn't happen when I browse other news; only when I browse things related to Muslims. They can't gag me everywhere, though.

The thing that makes it necessary to gag me is that I keep telling people that they NEED to study Islam. NOT by asking questions of Muslims, because they will ALL LIE. Lying to infidels makes Allah proud of them. There is only ONE way to learn what Islam is really about: from its OWN written texts, Quran and Hadith. Free downloads. No excuses for any of you to be so confused and ignorant. But few people have responded and said, "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." So it means virtually ALL of you are so deeply in denial that you can't be bothered, even though this whole subject matter bears very directly on your OWN survival. I don't ask anyone to take my word for it – I tell them to get the "skinny" on their own hook. That's the best way. But you people are too intellectually lazy. It'll cost you dearly one day, unless a majority of you do some serious homework.

I see no redeeming virtues among the Palestinians. Nor should we send them food; it only makes it easier not to support their families while they are busy little bees, jihading like mad. Even NOW, if they wanted to become civilized, and build up their new homeland, bring in industry and jobs, there are countries who would gladly help them – but not if they keep on sending rockets into Israel. Supporting cockroaches is never wise.

Well that's a shame...torture, rape, the middle east. This is a very vague piece. Did your highschool intern write this. Also, who is raping and torturing the women? Egyptians, Israelis, Palestinians, Jordanians? Your lack of details leave an open-ended implication that places blame on Israel. Especially since most people identify Sinai with Israel from old Bible stories...even though its in Egypt. Hmm...

While the article wasn´t very informative, it really doesn't matter what nationality the perpetrators were. Criminals are criminals the world over and most of them couldn't care less about politics or nationalities.

These cases are actually falling under international law because they cross so many borders and involve so many nationalities. I have been trafficked myself mutiple times and it was not until the installation of the international court of law in The Hague that I was capable of starting to prosue justice for the many crimes committed against me. I don't know if you or pro or against world governement. Fact is that their are multiple ways of forming a world governement. Some more likeable then others depending on how you think our planet and its inhabitants need to be taken care of. Fact is that most uneducated young and older americans scream illuminati and other bullshit when you talk about world governement without realizing that a international court of law it the only way for many cases to get justice done and they also forget that their allready IS a world governement; called the G8 and the G20; the union of the 8 and 20 most powerfull countries in the world. Anyways, I can continue talking about this for a while. One of my university majors was politics but I have a lot of stuff to do. I hope I have cleared out a part of your question. bye

Exactly what I was going to say. The article should have made it explicit to less geographically-educated readers (like Americans) that Sinai is not in Israel. It is in Egypt. The women were apparently trekking through the Sinai in an attempt to cross the border into Israel when there troubles occurred. Hey, look, I'm a better journalist than CNN.

Jordan has taken refugees. Currently 60% of Jordan's population is actually Palestinian.

        June 1, 2011 at 11:51 am |
      • Jamie

Sorry MA, but Jordan hasn't taken in "refugees". The reason 60% of Jordanians are Palestinian is because what we know today as Jordan was actually 77% of the original British Mandate for Palestine. Everything west of the Jordan River (Israel, the West Bank, Gaza) makes up only 23% of the original territory.
Which, of course, means that there already IS a Palestinian State – Jordan. The problem for the Palestinians is that a Hashemite rules it.

@MA can you show me any reference to a group or class of people called Palestine (how about a land called Palestine) BEFORE Israel declared themselves a nation? I find it ironic that that part of the land was never under sovereign rule before Israel (the ottoman empire ruled it and lost it in WW1), yet some how AFTER Israel became a nation these Palestine people then magically appeared. They did nothing with the land for 1600yrs then Jews build it up and they come running hey this is my land- where were they before that? Furthermore unless you are over 60 you were born with Isreal existing and ruling that land so you have no claim to a land that was never under your control since your birth!

@ dude please tell me what history book you read from- also please just show me 1 time in the past 2000 yr where that country was ever sovereign? Show me where it was populated with a bunch of people- I can point out reports by people like mark twain who wrote it was a desolate waste land with almost no inhabitance. we can dig up reports that say there was almost no one living there and it was a backwater waste land AND THEN ISRAEL declared itself a nation started building the place up and look who comes running! If I'm wrong lets posts some links, facts, and documents to support each others claims- I bet I can find more of what I claim to be true than you. please just post some links, or documents.

And now the thankless task of correcting misinformation for some of the repliers. Jordan was intended for a mostly Bedouin population by the British. Palestinian refugees became part of the population as a result of the 1948 war. They weren't yet the majority population when their rebellion was suppressed by King Hussein. As their population grew into the majority, and as the new king, Abdullah II is a much weaker leader, the country has had to accommadate to them.

Now, the bizarre idea that the Palestinians aren´t really a people native to the area is the same lie that the Apartheid South Africans unsuccessfully tried to explain why there were Black people in their African country. Nobody bought it that time either. The word Palestine was given to the Philistines by the Romans, and of course the Philistine nation was the most powerful there until conquered by King David 3000 years ago. So, their roots there go back at least as far, and probably further, than the Hebrews. Israeli is stuck with the task of dealing with them, just as the reverse is the case as well.

The evidence is pretty clear that no peace process has occurred since the Camp David accords, in that area of the world. I don´t see one being attempted for real in the forseeable future, and the blame game is useful only to avoid responsibility on both sides.

uhm, THE way to know that the history-books in your school were faulty is to look at big factual errors, put in solely to further a political agenda: like the 'no palestines before the 19th century' nonsense. the name palestine comes from roman times and referred to everybody living there, jews AND the people who already lived there before the jews.
'a land without people for people without a land'? one of the darker pages in the history of the un. OBVIOUSLY there were already people living there, it was not the south pole.
'under-populated' then? not even that. israel didn't make 'the desert bloom', they are instead using way to much water to grow crops in areas that are not suitable for those crops. and as in all western countries agriculture is heavily subsidized anyway.

israel gives automatic citizenship to any repatriating jew – it's a young country and welcomes repatriation. on the other hand it ALSO gives asylim and citizenships to non-jewish refugees including these people from africa. in most cases these people are fleeing muslim regimes and imam-incited violence. i doubt they would want to come to another arab country even if it was willing to accept them. look how they are treated by the egyptians en route.

One additional point, it is not necessary to call someone a loser just because they might support a point of view that is different than yours. Your information needs correction: Bedouins and Arabs in Israel can volunteer (!) for military service (given those individuals are citizens of Israel). Other non-Jewish citizens (including Druze) are obligated for service (ether military or civil). Bedouins from Negev (not Sinai for sure, as Sinai is Egypt territory) makes best 'trackers' in Israeli Defense Forces and, even in bigger numbers, in police Border Protection (it's a military force even it's under police command) and it's a prestigious career for man in their community (I don't know about Bedouin girls volunteer for military service, but I'm not in this things for a while). I may be mistaking, but I believe Israeli Army has Bedouins in the colonel rank.

@Daveed, you are correct that the Bedouins of the Sinai are not Israeli citizens, as they are Egyptian. However, either you or your friend are lying about Israeli Arabs (there are no Israeli Palestinians) and Bedouins in the IDF. There are WHOLE units comprised of nothing but Bedouins (or mostly so) in the Israeli army. They mostly fill recon roles. As for Israeli Arabs, they are allowed to volunteer for the IDF (they are not required to join) and many do.

Here is a link to interview with an Israeli army Major, a Bedouin named Falah al-Haib talking about being almost killed by an IED as he was patrolling the Israeli border with Gaza. http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition/news/idf-bedouin-officer-recalls-moment-of-blast-that-nearly-killed-him-1.274953

Here is an article about a dramatic rise in Bedouin recruits joining the IDF: http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/1,7340,L-3836662,00.html

You cant judge a religion based on its people. You judge the people based on their religion.

If you want to judge Islam, pick up a book that explains the principles of the faith.

Looking at muslim's actions to see what Islam is about it is similar to looking at KKK and seeing what Christianity is about, it doesnt make sense to do that.

There is NO "muslim" country (ie saudi, egypt, etc) that follow Islamic rules. Its dictators, kingship, autocrats (which are prohibitied in Islam) that rule these "muslim" countries are actually "muslim" by name not by practice.

Sorry, MA, but you can judge a religion based on people who is practicing it.
Old and New Testaments have a lot of violence, but nowadays Christians and Jews not interpreting it literally. Muslims, however, do just this – they, as a mainstream, interpreting Koran literally.
Sure, you have marginal Jewish and Christian groups, who call for violence, but in Muslim word it is a majority (look at Pakistan anti-blasphemy law issue as example). I’m not saying that all Muslims are violent; I’m just saying that Islam in its modern mainstream form (I’m not talking about Sufi, for example) and how it practiced by Muslim fateful is violent.

However, this has nothing to do with this article.

It appears that there is a culture of crime on that peninsula (at least). There was a piece on the contraband smuggling community on the other side of the border from Gaza. Those freaks were happy for Gazans because they would get more of a chance to move around, but sad that they wouldn't be able to make as much money smuggling weapons and drugs in because now they'd be able to be walked across in broad daylight. another fellow said – that's ok, there will always be stuff that's not allowed to be taken over the border, so my business is still safe.
There is a culture of crime there – some as innocent as smuggling weapons for hamas use, some as sinister as raping and torturing refugees. It's easy to say crime has no nationality or citizenship, but in a healthy society even if the authorities are incapable of enforcing all laws everywhere, the society will police itself – both through education and teaching kids what's right and what's not and through actually confronting the crooks. in a healthy society that's possible because the non-crooks far outnumber the crooks, so unless the crooks are in a highly organized and very well armed mafia they have to lay low and only act out of sight. these fine folks here probably aren't that well armed or organized, so this is a case of really bad morals and the number of criminals outweighing the number of honest people.

The story is about the suffering of the immigrants in the hands of the Bedouin in the Sinai desert. The Bedouins roam the desert and not necessarily belong to one country (Egypt) but yes, they currently are torturing Eritrean immigrants in Egyptian territory.

Are you collecting info on human trafficking only for Israel? It is much more cases popping up in Romania, Netherlands, not to mention Mexico (and the US for that matter). Such cases can be found practically in any country (save Vatican, perhaps). So, you’re picking Israel because you’re expecting us to be perfect? Thank you for your trust – we’re striving for best, but we have 7 million people and not all of them perfect souls.

‘Hate’ is emotional feeling and needs no rational reasons (any listed by you is just an excuse – you said that you’re ‘hate Israel’, so then you don’t need any reasons).

And for your ‘hate’ itself – you can eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A lot of people use to hate us over last 4000 years and what? We’re not in popularity contest – we’re in survival. And so far we’re good in survival and getting better.

Those two women are save now. This story isn’t new – such cases where reported before: Egyptian Bedouins abusing would-be refugees in transit the same way as Mexican ‘coyotes’ do. As refugees going ‘under’ the law they are losing protection of law, and even crime of smugglers became a double crime, it can’t be prevented (but good if it will be punished).

visitor – "Are you collecting info on human trafficking only for Israel?" you ask. Um did you read this story, let's apply everything you just said to this story.
I don't "hate Israel" just to hate Israel. It's what your country does that makes me despise it so much. Just as I despise the poison and evil in my own government and the corporations that murder and rob and propaganda to hide it and cover it up. Scum. You are all just disgusting. Stop doing the cr@p your doing and maybe people will stop hating you.

who's BUYING all these women? it's very likely not israelis. it's pretty hard to get away with this stuff in a free society. the buyers are your towelhead buddies who lock these women up in harems and have their way with them. Israel, like Western European and North American countries are used to LURE these women out of their poor countries usually on the promise of a good job or a rich husband + a nice life in a FREE society. So you're saying they are having better luck enticing them with Israel, than Egypt or Saudi Arabia... ok, what else is new? that some of those sc u m bags are israelis? yeah, in between 6 million people you will probably find a few willing to do this. I highly doubt that many of your arab buddies would turn down an opportunity like this given the choice. but you chose to seek out the few israelis because you're a hater. yawn. israel will be around and bettering itself while your hate consumes you.

Well, a hit piece against Israel. What a surprise! This article did nothing to dissuade the reader from placing blame squarely on the leaders of Israel. They made it appear as if it were some sort of systemic problem or policy put in place by the Israelis.

You're absolutely correct. The article is so poorly written that unless you read it very carefully, you will come to the conclusion that Israel is responsible for these violations. Even if you read it carefully, unless you know (in advance) that Egypt has controlled the Sanai ever since their peace treaty with Israel, you will think that the "Sanai is Israel."

Pathetic. Could have been better written by a grade school student. The person who wrote this should be fired.

The article is confusing. While it suggests that "crossing into Israel" is these peoples' goal, it does NOT make it clear that Israel is inot responsible for this slavery or their transport in horrific conditions. Many people will read it, scanning it...to leave with the belief that Israel formented this slavery...or actively took part in it.

Folks, the Sanai is controlled by Egyptians. Slavery among Muslims has gone on for thousands of years. Again, in case you missed it: "This slavery situation is NOT the fault of Jews or Israel."

They are trying to get to Israel to get away from it.

This article is unadulterated crap by CNN. There are no facts presented whatsoever. In fact most of the posters simply used it as a forum to bash the Israelis. The rise in immigration is because these people are treated better in Israel than their own country. The Sinai is Egyptian territory, totally out of the jurisdiction of Israel and sadly, independent criminals take advantage of other peoples misfortune. These criminals operate in every society and should be stopped.

It is not antisemetic to say Israel has a problem with human trafficking. Human trafficking is a worldwide problem and exists around the globe including in Israel.......and the US and Europe and Asia..... If this article discussed human trafficking in the US would it be anti-American? The posters who are bashing Israel need to figure out how to address the slavery issue in their own country before attacking other countries about their policies.

I'm sure that whoever wrote this garbage will get a bonus from Ted Turner for reflecting CNN's bias against Israel and the Jews. Fact: This tiny and free country has taken in thousands of Ethiopians, Eritreans, etc. who automatically became Israeli citizens. Now they are really safe. Some posters are in dear need of info.

As to their torturers. F-ing coyotes are the same whether it's desperate people paying out the nose for escort from Africa to Israel, or from south and central America to the US. I hate those b@stards who take money to help people make a new life and then instead betray and abuse them – rape, beat, rob, leave imprisoned in a truck the sun to die like rats. I hate corrupt coyotes with a passion I reserve for few things in this life, and I desperately hope that this whole heaven/hell thing is actually true so they can suffer for eternity for their cruelty.

Bedowine for your own information in Arabic means “a person from the village”. He or she can be anybody Egyptian, Palestine, Israeli etc. No one should tolerate such a barbaric act. Whoever is committing the crime would get their punishment one day. It is very disturbing however that the discussion changed somehow to Israel and Palestine issues...not that I don’t care. Israel has a huge bit of human trafficking, even when their media (the USA media/Europe) raves how "Evil" it is. Bu then again the JEWS have always controlled SLAVERY.

Their hypocrisy sickens me. They want a USA gentleman who goes and has some "Fun" in Asia to be arrested as a criminal, even if he didn't poke a child, but they import people all over the world for at least "maids" if not "Wh-"s if not "Sacrifice Victims". Nice that the USA gives them $3 million a day, no?

What Economic Recovery? Let's Get Doped Into Foreign Affairs to Forget the Failing Economy.

In May, the American economy added the insignificant number of 38,000 jobs. America is overpopulated with over 311 million people (nobody knows how many illegal aliens) and cannot support its own population, but millions of new illegal and legal immigrants arrive each year. There is no industrial plan to bring back the millions of jobs and industries that global corporations exported and continue to export.
    My blog has solutions.

According to the US government's own statistics, 36% of men 16 to 64 years old are out of the work force. Most don't count because they are not looking for work. It takes money to look for work, after a while people vanish from the unemployment statistics.

In my blog, I loaded George Washington's "Farewell Address" advising America. I highlighted the parts that we are violating. Communist China is following this advice and we are committing the folly of ignoring it. My blog contains solutions to our problems that the politicians have failed to implement.

While we drop bombs in Muslim countries financed with debt money, the Communist Chinese announced that they are buying large amounts of European government debt and that they opened a direct railroad linking China with Antwerp, Belgium in Western Europe. Europe is now China’s largest market. Europe is now globalized like America with their global corporations exporting their industrial base to China. Last year China announced that they have a controlling interest in Iraqi oil and are receiving oil from their Iraqi oil fields. The Communists understand capitalism better than we do and that economic power controls governments.

In the USA, only 9% of the economy is industrial. 76% of the jobs created during the "recovery" pay $9 or less per hour with little or no benefits. 47% of American households are too poor to pay income taxes. The Federal Government must beg and borrow $1.65 trillion dollars this year. Many States and local governments are bankrupt. Local Property taxes are crushing the middle class in many States invaded by illegal aliens. Their children consume Medicaid and school services. Bankrupt States like New York have dumped welfare Medicare costs on the counties.

In Europe from Spain to Greece, people are protesting that they have no future because there are no jobs. Europe like America exported its industrial base to China and Third World cheap labor countries. European governments are as deep in debt as America and their economies are failing under globalization.

Obama got us involved into a third Muslim war to get us deeper into the Israeli-Muslim conflict that caused us to inherit Israel's enemies. The "war of Terror" has cost us in ten years $5 trillion dollars and now a powerful special interest group of war contractors will keep a permanent debt financed war going until we are in debt slavery.

First, this doesn't involve Israel and has nothing to do with Israel. Second, don't kid yourself: while Israel IS far better than its Mozzie neighbors, its standards of human rights in general are far lower than those of Western countries. Third, until very recently, Israel WAS on the State Department's black list for human traficking although it didn't get any press or public discussion. One of the charges was they had open air slave markets for women trafficked from Russia etc. Women would stand around naked and brothel owners would walk around and inspect them like livestock. It wasn't even illegal.

I read all these comments, and cannot believe my eyes. for some reason, facts are of no importance anymore. I work in Israel with African refugees coming through the Egyptian border. The stories about the turture camps in Saini are indeed ture. But, by no means, they are not connected to Israel. The people incharge of these horrible facillities and trafficking of people through the Saini desert are Bedowins! the Saini desert is under Egyptian rule since the late 70's!
the Efricans traveling from Sudan, Ivory cost etc. do so because of conditions in their countries, not because they were invited or bought by Israeli traffickers. when reaching the Israeli border, they are usually picked up by Israeli soldiers and brought to a compaound, where the are fed, seen by doctors and taken care of.
I understand it is a trend to blame Israel for everything horrible happening around the middle east (and not only), and we can argue forever about Israel's right, the palestinians etc etc. but this subject has nothing to do with Israel's policies or behavior, since Israel has not control over what happens bayond its borders – In Africe or Egypt!
