How to help: The role of technology

Although the basic characteristics of slavery haven’t changed over time, the ways in which we can fight against this atrocity have. Victims around the world are still being physically and emotionally abused, as well as economically exploited, but we are constantly learning and developing new ways to assist the victims and track down the traffickers.

A good example of this is how the role of technology has evolved within the abolitionist movement.

Previously, CNN helped visualize the data, including the key trafficking routes and which national borders are being paid special attention to. An added source of information is Not For Sale’s slavery map , which documents the recorded instances of human trafficking around the globe.

Also, we've featured the ways in which technology can help and success stories, like that of Katherine Hinds, who saved two Russian girls from being trapped by traffickers.

Meanwhile, Justin Dillon explored the technology modern-day abolitionists are using in the fight as well as the apps you can use to help and support your own slavery-free life style.

Free2Work, created by Not For Sale, is an excellent resource allowing you to see what actions your favorite brands are taking, or failing to take, in order to keep slavery out of their supply chain. If you have a smart phone, make sure to download the app so that you can have all this information at hand the next time you go out shopping.

One of the example of Modern day salvery is Exit Re entry system in Saudi Arabia; Saudi employers often use this to treat expats workers as salves; blue collar and domestic workers are worst affected. As per the law, Saudi employers retain Passport of their employees. Employees cannot travel withou getting passport and Exit re entry visa ( a permission to travel abroad that can be arranged by saudi employer himself or his authorised saudi rep.
It means expats workers cannot travel to their own country. Their wages are not paid for months, they are abused, women domestic workers are even sexually abused, but they cannot even travel to their own countries because first their employoers retain their passport and second they need Exit Re entry paper for travelling.
This is an example of modern day slavery in a country which is one of the highest Oil exporting country. Interestingly, this country claimed to be following principles of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), but contrary to what Saudi rules for expats workers described above, Prophet was known to release Slaves for the best interest of humanity.

I shall appreciate if CNN can cover this story independently and try to convince authorities through WTO and ILO to do the needful.

    thanks and best regards

slavery in any form is WRONG! we as a nation fight all over the world for freedom. How can we as a nation put blinders on to the atrocities that are happening in our own backyards. Although i agree with Mr Kutcher and Ms Moore, that men need to be more stand up. Women do to, such as in the Duggard situation, and women across the country drowning or imprisoning young people. hence education is imperative and early intervention an absolute.

    Modern slavery in Nigeria.
I will like to bring to your notice that most corporate company in Nigeria engage workers to modern slavery. Bank in Nigeria as been engaging their workers to an act I consider slavery, Nigerians in their own country work as a contract worker to the banks with very low pay and no promotion. At the end of each year productivity will be paid to the core bank staffs were the contract workers do not get any thing, the major working hour is been given to contract staffs with more work and their career development as been design in a way that will not make them grow.
First Bank of Nigeria: Over 3000 Nigerian work as contract staff with no plan for career development, pension fund been deducted from worker pay package, no productivity pay.
Oceanic Bank : work as contract staff with no plan for career development, pension fund been deducted from worker pay package, no productivity pay.
Sky bank: Sky is better as they consider career development for their contract staff. But low package, pension fund been deducted from worker pay package.
CNN should please come to the aids of Nigeria youth and future as the Big did to want the small rise.

I have to show some thanks to you for rescuing me from this particular predicament. Because of surfing around through the world wide web and coming across concepts that were not powerful, I was thinking my entire life was done. Your expertise and kindness in maneuvering everything was important. I don’t know what I would have done if I hadn’t encountered such a subject like this. I can also now look ahead to my future. Thanks for your time so much for this reliable and results-oriented guide. I will not think twice to refer the blog to any person who should have recommendations on this problem.
