I think this is good news since a lot of sex workers do their business in hotels and motels.

The problem is much deeper than hotels. Consider child sex slavery scandals involving US defense contractors.

      From the Wikipedia:

DynCorp Employee involvement in child sex slave traffic

According to whistleblower Ben Johnston, a former aircraft mechanic who worked for the company in Bosnia and Herzegovina, DynCorp employees and supervisors engaged in sex with 12 to 15 year old children, and sold them to each other as slaves.[18] Ben Johnston ended up fired, and later forced into protective custody. According to Johnston, none of the girls were from Bosnia and Herzegovina itself, but were kidnapped by DynCorp employees from Russia, Romania and other places.

On June 2, 2000, members of the 48th Military Police Detachment conducted a sting on the DynCorp hangar at Comanche Base Camp, one of two U.S. bases in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and all DynCorp personnel were detained for questioning. CID spent several weeks working the investigation and the results appear to support Johnston's allegations. For example, according to DynCorp employee Kevin Werner's sworn statement to CID, "during my last six months I have come to know a man we call 'Debeli,' which is Croatian for fat boy. He is the operator of a nightclub by the name of Harley's that offers prostitution. Women are sold hourly, nightly or permanently."[19]

Johnston is not the only DynCorp employee to blow the whistle and sue the billion-dollar government contractor. Kathryn Bolkovac, a U.N. International Police Force monitor hired by the U.S. company on another U.N.-related contract, filed a lawsuit in Great Britain against DynCorp for unfair dismissal due to a protected disclosure (whistleblowing), and on 2 August 2002 the tribunal unanimously found in her favor.[20] DynCorp had a $15 million contract to hire and train police officers for duty in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time she reported such officers were paying for prostitutes and participating in sex-trafficking.[21] Many of these were forced to resign under suspicion of illegal activity, but none have been prosecuted, as they also enjoy immunity from prosecution in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bolkovac's story was made into a film, The Whistleblower, in 2010. She has also co-authored a 2011 book with Cari Lynn titled The Whistleblower: Sex Trafficking, Military Contractors And One Woman's Fight For Justice.
DynCorp has admitted it fired five employees for similar illegal activities prior to Johnston's charges.[22] In the summer of 2005, the United States Defense department drafted a proposal to prohibit defense contractor involvement in human trafficking for forced prostitution and labor. Several defense contractors, among others DynCorp, stalled the establishment of a final proposal that would formally prohibit defense contractor involvement in these activities.[23]

      Dancing boy incident

DynCorp workers who were employed to train Afghan policemen took drugs and paid for young "dancing boys" (child prostitutes) to entertain them in Kunduz, according to one of the US embassy cables released by WikiLeaks.[24][25][26] The cable stated that the Afghan interior minister at the time, Hanif Atmar asked the assistant US ambassador to try and "quash" both the story and release of video from the incident. The story was eventually published by The Washington Post in July 2009[27] and downplayed the incident, calling it a "questionable management oversight" when it was in fact being discussed at the highest levels of the Afghan government. According to The Guardian, the incident was influential in causing the Afghans to demand that private security companies were more strictly controlled by governments,[28] although the leaked diplomatic cable states that "placing military officers to oversee contractor operations at RTCs [i.e., DynCorp Regional Training Centers] is not legally possible under the current DynCorp contract."

At the time of the leaked cable's writing, an investigation was on-going and disciplinary actions had been taken against DynCorp leaders in Afghanistan. An investigation by Afghanistan's Ministry of Interior (MOI) resulted in the arrest of two Afghan police and nine other Afghans for the crime of "purchasing a service from a child." The United States' Assistant Ambassador to Afghanistan cautioned that an overreaction by the Afghan government would "only increase chances for the greater publicity the MOI is trying to forestall."[29]

According to employees who spoke anonymously for fear of retribution, four senior managers were sacked as a result of this and other incidents in Afghanistan.[30] The State Department was reportedly investigating whether DynCorp had ignored signs of drug abuse among employees in Afghanistan. According to the State Department Inspector General, a "substantially completed" review specifically pertaining to the dancing boy incident had uncovered no criminal activity. Following government investigations into its programs in Afghanistan and other conflict zones, DynCorp was reported to be strengthening its ethics practices, and had created a chief compliance officer position whose focus included ethics, business conduct, and regulatory compliance.[31]

@think....you're trolling. You posted the exact same thing in another thread. You're also trying to make it seem that Dyncorp is representative of every U.S. corporation that works overseas. In fact, it isn't even DynCorp as a whole that is responsible here. The actions of the few do not make those of the majority guilty. If a cashier for your local gas station was found to be guilty of writing obscene things on the bathroom wall you wouldn't blame the mechanic, so why blame all of DynaCorp? Seriously, try to be less of a troll. Yes, human trafficking is rampant throughout the world, and yes, Americans, along with so many other nationalities, are involved, but that doesn't mean that you besmirch everyone that has the same nationality or affiliations. You do us all and yourself a injustice. Now get off your soap box

@Big-, if the man is good and responsible, the muslim woman can be happy. I think the possibility of a muslim woman to be happy is higher than that of the present Western women, although anyone's accidental happiness is not important to human history and development. Everyone needs and deserves freedom of conscience and decent education based on Judeo-Christian values. Present West is oppressive with insane immorality. Parents don't like the West.

If a man is good and responible then any woman will be happy. wether there Christian, jewish, budhist, or hindu. Your placing yourself as a muslem above all other religions. This is exactly why our world is so screwed up. As far as the west being morally bankrupt I disagree. Your Ideals are based on a perception from a morally twisted view of a religion that is so uptight with its views that you'll remove the hand of a thief, stone a woman to death for cheating, a family that murders a woman for revenge, These are fundamentalist actions yes but that seems to be where islam is heading. Islam and Christianty promote violence both are twisted and wish to god they'd both disappear from our world. If you could only get rid religion and keep God the world would be a beautiful place.

      Dear Naomi

Muslims are not better than Western men. Any day of the week or night you can see Arab Muslim and Asian Muslim men buying women, girls and boys along Sukhumvit Road at Soi Nana (Soi 1 to Soi 15) in Bangkok. You can also see Muslim Arabs and Muslim Asians buying women and boys in Pattaya Beach in Thailand. You can also see them with other men of all religions and cultures do the same in Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, SIngapore, Manila, Cebu, Jakarta, Bali, and Kuala Lumpur. The problem of sex trafficking is not about nationality, religion or lack of religion it is about exploitation and criminal organzations that are operating as business often in the open on a global scale.

So better do your research before you make statements like that.

Why are you comparing a religion to a cultural? "Western men" is not a religious belief nor should be compared to the other. A man can be good regardless of either of your parameters. The same for a woman. Each individual has the ability to be good or bad, regardless of their religious beliefs. If you remained focused on just a religious belief then you are limiting yourself and risking the chance of meeting the right man for you on a personal level. Western culture is far from over. Take a look at the middle east right now, look at how people are fighting for their freedoms and rights....the same ones that the Western culture has earned and kept for centuries. Your statements on such matters makes you seem afraid..scared that your dominance in the world is growing smaller and smaller.

Such parents cannot install proper dream or vision onto their children and the society gets hit with various tragedies until all victims are rescued. Meanwhile casuality just mounts. Tragedies in life were something that will repeat and continue as the sun and the moon. Christianity taught humans that God values us, new life exists, and that justice can be and must be fought for and installed properly.

Prostitution is not buying women. Marrying a woman is more like buying while prostitution is more like renting. It actually costs more to have a wife.

Women goes into prostitution for a variety of reasons. Some actually do it to have more freedom and control over their lives. Some actually do it so they can raise money for tuition to AFFORD higher education. Only the forced ones are there for the wrong reasons.

Empowering agents of a religion X to use coercion to impose and limit behavior is oppressive and inhumane, and disrespects the right of all humans to reason and follow their conscience and exist peacefully. Once empowered and linked to the powers of state, how long until the irrational & superstitious centralize powers, writing laws requiring belief testing, and demand that judges and juries only be those of Religion X, and then demand gays be killed, witches burned, demon-possessed drowned, heretics imprisoned or burned at the stake? Theocracies lead to large scale persecutions, and the large scale restriction of logical and rational inquiry to those affirming the superstitious beliefs.

We can have shared ethics, such as 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you', 'love others as you would love yourself', and even 'love your enemies' without empowering the state to act as if it has divine authority, or has powers and enforcement duties to enforce matters of 'spiritual' nature. The government should have just the powers it needs to find and stop those who abuse, steal, harm and kill, and keep them from harming the rest of society, and conviction should require good evidence, rational debate by peers, and appropriate sentencing. There are cultures where the police cut off a hand of a thief as a 'deterrent' to thieves, even if they are only stealing a loaf of bread to feed their starving family. In that case people with inspired ethics should be demanding that society instead find ways for the family to earn and grow their food, and pay back what was stolen. Then, instead of more cut off hands we end up with more productive hands and the social change which lifts people up from the dehumanizing desperation of poverty.

It is heresy to suggest any finite human government ought to be anything but very circumspect when it comes to matters of faith and statements about divinity and divinity's purposes for men and women. The US Constitution actually requires that public elected officials not be subject to any tests of religion, faith or belief, and yet many fundamentalists and extremist evangelicals continue to demand candidates for local, state and federal office affirm some sort of Christian belief and somehow demonstrate they are anointed by God to lea–an intangible superstition which is what the subjects of the Colonial British Crown and Tories believed of their kings and ruling class nobles. Allowing any government official to claim, without censure, that they can 'devine' God's hand, God's plan, God's intentions or laws, or to know what God's justice demands, and know God's plan for their nation, and require human agents to deliver whatever the Supreme Being is imagined to want (but refuses to directly do with supernatural power), is how we end up with fascism, and the corruption of linking political and military power, wealth and the binding power of religion together, a truly unholy mix. As they mix, they seek more and more ways and gifted experts to 'discern' spiritual 'error', supernatural intentions, and seek to find 'signs' they can 'interpret' as evidence, end they end up used in ways not supported by rational, scientific evaluation which rational, educated peers ccould agree upon. No human government, no political power or appointed justices has the ability to declare something is 'of the Devil' or someone is 'the unholy spawn of Satan'. This is simply unverifiable and unsuitable for any democratic people claiming to be ruled by common law, which respects and values human rights. And how many American politicians who 'believe the Bible' and affirmed they are devote Christians with beloved spouses end up found to have hypocritically been engaging in sex with prostitutes (sex workers) and even underage males and girls. Korea's Sun Yung Moon has been suspected to have deployed large rings of Korean women to lure Washington's male power elite into illicit sexual engagements and to have maintained evidence of this to help advance his increasingly vast business interests and national interests which benefited him and his nation.

There are two effective prongs of attack on this crime of human trafficking, which don't require the national adoption of religions or national tests of belief. Find the damned traffickers and stop them, eliminate the sources of customers and the easy sources of the girls, as a matter of good police work, public policy, perhaps some good spy work. Police work, cooperating across national boundaries, to find and arrest the traffickers, does requires full cooperation, especially within known major trading zones in various countries, where corruption seems to ensure complicity with the traffickers and keep them 'untouchable' by local police. And we also need to police those who are 'customers' of the traffickers and have sentencing that is appropriate for the men whose money supports this practice, with some relief if giving up information leading to the arrest of the sources. We'd need to globally coordinate on complimentary social programs to give the once trapped younger women education and skills, along with transitional support, enabling them to have secure livelihoods, with long term support and follow-up by social services who values them. The children of prostituted women represent another often neglected social challenge to address along with the women. Perhaps there should be laws for men who use prostitute slaves of sex traffickers, that if convicted, 90% their property is forfeit to the wife and 10% to social organizations trying to help freed women, and if single, 90% to social organizations trying to help the women saved from trafficking. Men need to pay a deterring price but also need to the opportunity to reform and to be guided into having positive productive lives that doesn't include exploiting women. Men who have used power and position to take advantage of women should suffer consequences, and yet should have reform opportunities that do not impoverish him or prevent him from providing child and family support. Penalizing the wife and children of a guilty man just pushes more people into desperation–and desperation is a primary contributor to these crimes, that plus the callous opportunistic criminal people who buy and sell humans for the sex trades.

If the US were truly a leader in prosecuting trafficking, we'd be hearing news on several fronts. Enforcement of solicitation laws would focus on finding sources of girls that are trafficked and trace them from within thee US to the countries of origin and perhaps back to their homes. And second, there would be a major effort to bust the trafficking rings and freeing of women embedded in the conflict areas where contracted private security firms are allowed to operate with little or no oversight in such matters, where possession and trading of sex slaves is tolerated or accepted as a sign of their power of status and domination. The problem of women taken involuntarily for use in sex trades being viewed as 'impure', 'violated', and as having violated 'taboos', and therefore not suitable for normal work or marriage needs to be addressed globally. All nations and religions need to be challenged to find ways these young women can be again accepted by society and able to participate in all legitimate aspects of human society. It may not have been God's will that they were stolen, their their sexuality sold to men seeking cheap sexual satisfaction, but it should be understood that as fellow human beings made in God's image they deserve our love and support and respect for trying to rejoin families and/or normal society, and make better lives. I also realize young males have been and are still subject to corrupt sex trader as well, and would press for similar efforts and programs for them.

The problems of oppressive poverty and no opportunities in some nations end up pressuring families to sell their daughters as 'brides' to sex traffickers so their rest of their family can survive and eat, and this sort of desperate poverty that desperately needs global attention and support if trafficking is to end. Programs supporting the futures of young girls of villages and farming families are desperately needed, in order to shut down the temptation to sell them off to the sex traders.

Can anyone tell from the comments above that the real problem is not human trafficking? Yup, that's right it's RELIGION! Self righteous tribes of small-minded people all jumping to knee-jerk reactions that they've been force-fed their whole lives. C'mon people, EVERYONE and ANYONE has the potential to be either good or evil. Stop trying to categorise this debate along religious lines.

GJ, except you just fired my girlfriend along with your entire crew just before christmas to hire a temp agency that pays minimum wage. so the training is fired and the temp service doesn't give it. Plus they don't speak english so my girlfriend can't even get a job with them. The corporation will make a lot of money and some of the money will go to another country to help family member who haven't made it here yet. What country do most trafficker come from?
What happens when all your guests cant pay to stay with you cause every corporation in america fires americans for temp services and they can't get a job cause they don't speak spanish. Then no americans can afford to save for retirement and the equivalent will be sent to other countries. That will take money from SS and from local economy. you can end social security which would then make it a ponzi scheme, so wall street can play/gamble with everyone's retirement. Lock in that government job before your making minimum wage like everyone else.
