Although I applaud you for trying to re-create this, I cannot help to think that the people who have done this did not have a portable toilet, a air conditioner, a chest cooler, bags of cereal and a sleeping bag.

Maybe a better way of experiencing the isolation is to live as these people did.

This is an utterly pointless PR stunt. There is absolutely no need for anyone to "recreate" those conditions in order to bring awareness to the situation.

yup, agree, all it's doing is bringing awarness to him, it's an egotistical stunt by an idealogical narcissist.

How can you say this is pointless! This site had hundreds of people walking by everyday. I walk past on my way to work and always there were people stopped in their tracks staring at the container and the banners in disbelief. I overheard the charity say they had never had such a positive response from any previous campaigns.

CNN, the existence of human slaves are something, but those who get persecuted because what they seriously believe in must be featured in news as well.

I cant help but feel this guy s doing this to get attention for himself... if he really wants to help, why not go overseas and try to help victims currently being stowed away?

This guy is pathetic-people live permanently in much worse containers without any of his luxury's worldwide.
If he was sealed in a container/with goods on a vessel in pitching seas for a few months & managed to emerge after
being stacked 6 high in a container dock it would certainly be an awsome story to promote any just cause.
Sadly this is a non-event & not newsworthy. Millions of homeless people would be very happy to live permanently in his container! [It could even be construed as an insult to so many good desperate people trying to better themselves]

I agree, I seem to recall reading an article some time ago about people buying or being able to buy all the surplus China Shipping containers (all those stupid imports) and turning them into modular homes with one serving as a one room cabin. This guy is grand-standing we've got Americans including children living on the street, sleeping in cars because they lost their jobs and homes. And he lives there all by himself?! Invite 20-40 people to spend a few days with you locked-up in there like what you'd find in a //real// human trafficking situation, and then tell us about it! Pullleeeze!

Really? Why do things like this always end up having to be Muslim vs. Christian? Who cares what the person's religion is? It doesn't matter if they are Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, Wiccan or Atheist. What matters is they are HUMAN BEINGS? Period. End of story.

@ gerry: He knows, he said it himself in the interview, the difference is he's trying to make a difference...... It may not look like much but if he raises enough awareness, maybe one person will be saved.. for that one person. He's soul will forever be grateful.
    PS
I've seen people live like that, and i aint mad.

I sure this person means well however as others have stated, this guy is just looking for attention through this PR stunt. This isnt going to make people more aware, who gives a flying F*** if you stay in the container. Those things are packed with people he has absolutely no idea the kind of suffering they go through. Infact this guy is making a mockery of the victims.

I can't help but think that a lot of people have missed the point with these comments. I hope you all actually went down to the container to make an informed decision about the campaign. I did and the point it, he is in Solitary confinement. Peoples flats may be tiny, but I bet you have natural daylight and if not can walk outside and get some? Do you sleep with your head next to your own waste? He had no phone, no internet to speak to loved ones. I am not saying for one moment that these are the same conditions as trafficked people as the guy openly says in his interview, however, having visited for a short time, I was informed that the council would have not let this go ahead at all wothout those ammenities.

Also, people obviously do care as the charities website had 6000 views over the 2 weeks and they handed out over 5000 flyers and I certainly didn't see any on the floor whe I went. People were actually stood in amazement and the general comments were, I could never do that even for one day.

Sorry to rant but I think this guy is really trying to make a difference and is obviously supported by the charity and a lot of people here are just knocking him for that!

Guys, are you serious? How can you put this guy down for RAISING AWARENESS?!

There's nothing in it for him. He's working on behalf of a charity, the Helen Bamber Foundation, which helps rehabilitate women who have been trafficked and get them back their identities.

He's also put together an album of music and a live show, he's putting all of his time and energy into RAISING AWARENESS of a cause which plenty of people don't even think about.

He knows perfectly well that trafficked people don't get toilets ffs, and he knows perfectly well that they travel fifty to a container, he's not stupid, he's just trying to help RAISE AWARENESS.

It's a stunt. Yes. A publicity stunt. For a CHARITY.

The thing is awareness does need to be raised, especially in developed countries. People seem flabbergasted when they hear about human trafficking cases in Europe and especially the United States. Someone out there is always going to say, "I had no idea this was happening here." Even if he's just doing it as a stunt and he's given himself some extra amenities that trafficked people most likely don't have in their shipping containers, he's trying to do something. There hasn't been a lot of worldwide movement on the trafficking issue. More countries are beginning to pick up on it and if it takes a couple of PR stunt men chilling in shipping containers with a chemical toilet to make people look for signs of trafficked men and women, then that's fine. Let him live how he wants to and do what he wants to for two weeks.

Survey says: Absolute complete freaking poser!!! ...Agreed, the human trafficking issue is terrible, but this guy's narcisistic stunt is an insult to the millions of people in the world who would be happy to live in a shipping container. Heck, I'm comfortably middle class but am even sold on the idea of converting one into a small apartment. This guy seriously needs to find a different way to raise awareness or get a life!

Are you joking! will you remember this guys name in a months time, probably not, but will you remember the campaign and that someone locked themselves in a shipping container to try and raise awareness, yes! How can you possibly say that this is like a small apartment! Do you sleep with your toilet, have no daylight and isolate yourself for 2 weeks solid? One thing this guy has done is get us all talking about it, exactly the point I imagine! Job done!

Seems to me like this guy has done a pretty awesome thing.

If his purpose was to raise awareness, then the fact that we are talking about it means that he has acheived his purpose. This kind of issue won't go away on it's own. Slavery in all of its forms has always been an issue and its only through campaining that it continues to be eradicated. Any act that helps raise the standard of human rights should be applauded rather than criticised.

    Good job, Phil

I went and saw the crate. The amount of messages of hope and good luck, as well as messages about the whole topic of trafficking was astounding. These people who wrote on the box clearly got the point of this campaign and were open minded enough to see the good that could come of this kind of campaign. I agree with one comment above, it totally is a stunt, that is the idea, unfortunately the general public these days need things like this to really notice what is going on. Our lives are so busy these days, it is easy to ignore these types of issues. It is great that all you people above clearly know about trafficking but many do not and this stunt will totally bring it to their attention.

I wonder how many of you who have posted bad comments actually visited the event. Did you read the messages written on the container. Having done so, I found three that were obviously written by trafficked women and it seemed to make all the difference to them. And that's enough! If they found some sort of comfort from this then job done. Also, since you have bothered to leave a comment at all means you watched the interview and are now more aware. The whole point I would think.

I cant believe some of the comments posted above. Having walked past the site on several occasions and talked to the people handing out flyers it is clear that this young man has given so much time and energy to this charity that does amazing things. He has raised awareness and I am getting increasingly saddened by the way we are so quick to condemn others that get out and activley try and change some of the many wrongs in the world today. All credit to you Phil and keep up the good work.

It seems to me that there is a clear distinction between those that actually experienced what he's doing – i.e. those who visited the site – and those happy to pass judgement from afar for the sake of denigration.

I walk past the site on my way back from work and the sheer volume of people who seemed to be intrigued or even inspired by what he was doing was pretty impressive. The difference showed between the first day and the last in how many people signed the box. Obviously seeing what this guy was doing had an effect on them. If even half of them go out and act on what they have seen or try to learn more, then I think he's done alright. I've certainly looked into the foundation and the work they do. Here's hoping more people do as well.

for all you people who are trashing what this guy did i think you should be disgusted with yourselves. I know through talking to people and the charity up there that he wanted to do it how the poor girls have to do it but health and safey wouldnt allow him to. I think all you negative comment people have completely missed the point of this campaign, say what you like but your all talking about it now and i dont see any of you trying to raise awarness for this cause. Even though he did have a couple of luxurys he had no contacted with his friends, family or the outside world, I'd like to see how you would all coupe. I think what he did was a fantastic thing and his family should be very proud of him. Also a girl walked pass that had been in these condition and had been trafficed from the age of 14 and she was so greatful for what he was doing. So before all you negative people comment and say it was for self gain i suggest you get some facts first like I did about it all then and only then do you have a right to comment.

Well done Phil its people like you that will make a big change in this world your an insperation

I am all for awareness, however I think that human trafficers will NOT take the time to prepare a container to be sooooo comfortable , for all needs one would have in a home. If this does get people's attention I am all for it, but I miss the point when things are portraied so very elegantly. Human trafficing is very scary I have tow children and I pray that god protects them always, I feel for all those who have lost a love one for the gain of some monster's pleasure. But then that's just my view.
